Termite Service 1

A-1 Termite & Pest Control – Termite Inspection & Treatment Services

Keep your home safe from termite infestation and the damage they can cause.

Unfortunately, no home is immune from termites. They are a threat in every part of the United States except Alaska and cause between $2 billion and $3 billion worth of damage each year. Even more frightening, most of that termite damage is not covered by your homeowner's insurance. Once a termite finds its way in they will search for food - wood fiber. They squeeze through cracks as narrow as the thickness of a sheet of paper. Expansion joints, foundation cracks - even tiny gaps around plumbing and electrical points - these are all welcome mats for termite infestation.

MAKING THEM UNWELCOME

Here are some easy fixes to help reduce your chances of a termite infestation. The goal is to reduce moisture and organic matter around your structure and prevent wood fiber from coming into contact with the ground.

  • Don't place wooden trellises against your exterior walls
  • Keep mulch, lumber, sawdust and firewood away from buildings
  • Don't bury wood debris next to your home and remove infested trees and stumps
  • Repair leaking faucets and water lines (inside and out) and fix leaky roofs and gutters
  • Don't allow leaves to accumulate in gutters and drains
  • Grade soil so that water, including air conditioning condensation, runs away from your foundation
  • Ventilate crawl and attic spaces to reduce humidity and consider covering your crawl space with plastic sheeting
  • Make sure wood siding, stucco and foam board are at least 6 inches from the ground.

TELL-TALE SIGNS

Termites usually don't go unnoticed. Look for small holes in wood, crumbling drywall or sagging doors or floors. Insects, including termites, often shed their wings when they swarm. Also keep an eye out for shelter tubes that termites build along pipes and masonry. Even if you don't see any of these signs, termites could be attacking your home.

  • Our service technicians trench around the structure.
  • After trenching, they rod down into the trench four feet or to the foundation.
  • Trenching in the crawl space around the foundation walls and piers provides a continuous barrier against termites.
  • After trenching in the crawlspace our technician will flood the trench with termiticide which will absorb into the ground.

Termite facts

  • Termites have been around since the days of the dinosaur!
  • Termite colonies eat around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
  • Termites shed their wings once they find a good place to build a nest
  • Subterranean termites need contact with the soil to survive. They live in underground colonies or in wet areas above ground
  • Termites can destroy building foundations, wooden support beams, plastic plumbing pipes, sub-flooring, insulation, swimming pool liners and filtration systems. They can also destroy living trees and shrubs.
  • The question is often asked as to how many years are required before a newly constructed building will show signs of a termite infestation. If a colony is started by a pair of subterranean termite swarmers at the time of construction, at least 3 or 4 years are required before even a few swarmers will be produced. Evidence of damage may take longer. However; if the structure is built over or close to a strong existing colony of termites, hundreds of swarmers may appear within a year. Also, in this latter situation, substantial damage might be noticed within a year.
  • The total weight of all the termites in the world is more than the weight of all the humans in the world.
