A-1 Termite & Pest Control – Radon Testing & Mitigation Services
Keeping your family safe from an often undetectable but deadly threat.
Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that is naturally occurring and often seeps up from the ground into your home. It also can seep into drinking water from wells and building materials. You can prevent this often undetectable but serious danger through radon testing and an appropriate radon mitigation plan if test results are found to exceed safe levels.
Certain areas of the country - including ours - are at higher risk of unsafe radon levels. EPA studies have shown a high concentration of the carcinogen in the Appalachian mountain range, to include Watauga, Mitchell and Alleghany counties.
Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Over long periods of time, radon exposure leads to lung cancer and even death.

TESTING
We offer two tests for radon - a continuous monitor test or charcoal canister test.
A continuous monitor plugs into an outlet in the lowest living level of your home over 48 hours. The monitor is removed and read, giving an hour-by-hour count as well as an overall average. The charcoal canisters - usually two - are placed in the lowest living level for 48 hours. Test results typically take between 7 and 10 days to receive and produce an overall average.
FIXING THE PROBLEM
If high radon levels are found, it's important not to panic. Radon exposure is toxic over many years and not an eminent danger. We will review your test results and draft a proposal that's right for you. We offer a free on-site inspection and estimate to find the best solution. A radon mitigation system creates a vacuum to vent radon up through the house and safely into the atmosphere, where it dissipates. Each system is designed to be unobtrusive while working efficiently. We will perform a free test 10 days after installation to ensure that radon levels have dropped to a level safe for you and your family.

Following mitigation we offer annual testing to warranty your system and ensure your safety. If your system needs any repairs or adjustments, A-1 will handle it.
