Spiders

What are spiders?

Spiders, from the family arachnid, are eight legged insects that create webs to catch prey.  Spiders are generally a beneficial pest because they decrease the population of other insects.

Why do I have them?

There are thousands of varieties of spiders in the U.S.  They can be found inside and outside inhabiting corners and other out-of-the-way areas.  They often linger in your home to enjoy the other insects on which they feed.

Are they dangerous?

There are species of spiders which are dangerous most notably the Brown Recluse and the Black Widow.  Brown recluse spiders are named such because they hide in dark spots indoors.  It is brown with a darker brown violin shape on its back.  The Black Widow is known for its bulbous body with a red hourglass shape.  They typically are found outdoors.  Both have a venomous bite for which you should seek medical attention.  Brown Recluse spiders are sometimes found in our area with the Black Widow spider being more common.  Many times they are confused with other harmless varieties of spider.

How can I get rid of spiders?

A professional treatment in strategic areas will ensure that your home and family will be safe from spiders.  An A-1 technician can identify the type of spiders you have and provide a treatment plan.  A pest treatment can eliminate some of the pests which attract the spiders.

Can I do it myself?

There are many products available for spider treatment; however, when you have A-1 provide your service you are utilizing 48 years of knowledge of the best way to treat, the best product with which to treat, and safest means by which to treat to ensure your family’s safety.  A-1 technicians perform many hours of training and continuing education to know the best way to treat your home.  Each pesticide must be used in a specific mixture.  If mixed incorrectly by a do-it-yourselfer the result can be very dangerous.

Is the treatment safe?

The treatment is very safe.  We do ask that your family and pets vacate the house for approximately three hours following the treatment.  It is important to allow the pesticide to dry before you come in direct contact with it.  A-1 utilizes environmentally sound treatments while ensuring that your pest problem is eliminated.

How soon can you get here?

In many cases A-1 can respond the same or next day

What is the guarantee?

A-1 provides a 60 day guarantee for your ant service.  Within those 60 days if you continue to experience spiders we will return and provide a retreatment.  A-1 guarantees your satisfaction.

How can I prevent this in the future?

Quarterly pest treatment can prevent ongoing spider problems as well as other pest problems.  Eliminating cobwebs where you see them can deter spiders.  Keep your shoes enclosed in shoeboxes or something similar.  This can deter spiders from nesting in the dark recesses of your shoes and possibly causing a nasty bite.  Seal cracks and crevices which provide easy access to your home.
