The A-1 Story
Jack Roberts was one of eleven children. Jack worked his way through college graduating from pest control school at North Carolina State University in 1964. Following graduation he began working in the pest control industry.
In December 1965 Jack purchased a panel truck, some equipment, and the name “A-1 Termite and Pest Control” from Mrs. Wayne Icard, whose husband had passed away. On March 15, 1966, Jack started his adventure in pest control in Lenoir, NC. There were only a handful of termite annual accounts. This was a giant step for Jack and his wife, Peggy. Not only were they starting a new business, they were starting a family as well. They subsequently had two children,
son Bruce and daughter Michele. They began like a lot of other companies, working out of their home; which they did until the new office was built in 1981.
Bruce spent the summers during high school and college working in the business. After graduating from North Carolina State University he worked in many aspects of the business. Currently he is the general manager of A-1 Termite. Michele, who also graduated from North Carolina State University, has been around the family business for years as well. She is currently working in the Catawba Valley area.
