Radon Testing

What is radon?

Radon gas is a colorless, odorless, naturally occurring gas in Earth’s atmosphere that can seep up from the ground into your home. It can also be released into drinking water from wells and from certain building materials.

Certain areas of the country are more at risk for high levels of radon. The EPA studies have shown a high concentration of this carcinogenic gas in the Appalachian Mountain Range.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US, after cigarette smoking. The risks of high levels or radon for long periods of time are quite simple: lung cancer and/or death.

How do I know if my house contains radon gas?

The only way to see if you have high radon levels in your house is to have it tested. One of two tests can be done on your home to check the radon levels. Either test gives an accurate reading.

Continuous Monitor: plugs into outlet into the lowest “living” level of the home, test is 48 hours long, monitor is read out in the office, results give hour by hour reading and an overall average.

Charcoal Canisters: two canisters are required for test, place in lowest “living” level of home, test is 48 hours long, canisters are picked up and mailed to New Jersey for processing, results are normally back to the office in 7-10 days, results give an overall average.

What can I do to get rid of it?

If the results of the radon tests come back with unhealthy levels of radon gases, don’t panic, you are not in eminent danger. We will review your test results and determine the best course of action. We will deliver the test results to you and inspect your home to draft a

mitigation system proposal. Our radon service inspector will speak with you about the best way to rid your home of radon. Upon your acceptance of the mitigation contract, our radon mitigation crew will visit your home to install the mitigation system. After a days work your home will be well on its way to being radon free! Ten days after the installation of the system your home will be tested again, free of charge, to ensure the radon levels have dropped.

Adjustments to the system will be made until the gas level is below 4.0. An annual warranty is available for the mitigation system. We will inspect and retest your home on an annual basis. If your radon system needs any repairs or changes A-1 will take care of it all!
